The Bailiff - Sir Philip BailhacheIt is a great pleasure to welcome you all to Jersey and to express the hope that you have a rewarding and stimulating conference. These are difficult issues which are as problematic in Jersey as they are in other parts of the British Isles and in other places. The opportunity to share experiences is a valuable one. Jersey has a fascinating history and an unusual constitutional relationship with the United Kingdom. It is also a beautiful Island, rich in natural history and antiquities. I do hope that the visitors might all find a little time to explore Jersey and to discover what makes it special. Sir Philip Bailhache Bailiff of Jersey The RtS Chairman - District Judge Marilyn MorningtonIt is my great honour to welcome each of you to this sixth international and inter-jurisdictional conference in this beautiful island of Jersey. Since its inception in Ireland, followed shortly after with our first conference in Dublin Castle later in 2000, the Raising the Standards (RtS) Group or network has always placed great importance on face-to-face contact between practitioners from all the various services that play such an important role in addressing the issue of Domestic Abuse. To come together again at this uniquely difficult time, given the economic strains on, and threats to continuation of, our provision of service, it is all the more important that we provide you the highest standard of Programme content. We must also ensure as far as possible that each of you can take away information and make new as well as renewed contacts to help you improve the service which you are already delivering. Equally, we hope some of you may start new avenues of activity. I want to pay particular tribute to the RtS members from each of our jurisdictions who have continued to recognize the value of this initiative and its vital role over the last nine momentous years in improving our mutual response to domestic violence and increasing the protection to victims and their children by sharing our best practice. I know we have saved and changed for the better many lives since Dublin – every one has made our efforts worthwhile. I wish RtS a wonderful and productive conference and offer my prayers for its future and that of those we seek to serve.
