Workshop 3 Guernsey – Safe Contact – Cherry McMillen, Lieutenant Bailiff, Guernsey Royal Court

The issue of safe contact in the context of a violent or abusive parental relationship is a current and relevant issue for Guernsey and we have been attempting to achieve good practice not only within the Court system but also by working cooperatively with other agencies who are concerned with child protection issues.

PRESENTER BIOGRAPHY

Cherry McMillen

Cherry McMillen is an Assistant-Magistrate and Lieutenant-Bailiff in Guernsey.
Born In Belfast, she read History at University of Warwick and went on to qualify as solicitor, completing her articles in 1984. In 1992 she established the firm of McMillen Hamilton McCarthy based in London’s east end, specializing in Family and Criminal Law. Cherry was appointed to the Law Society’s Children Panel in 1988 and a duty solicitor in criminal matters from 1986 until 2004.  She was appointed a Deputy District Judge (Magistrate’s Court) in 1999 based in London sitting in criminal law cases. Subsequently, appointed Assistant Magistrate in Guernsey in 2004 Cherry became a Lieutenant – Bailiff in Guernsey in 2005, also sitting as a Coroner and as a Prison Adjudicator.
